Parents are the primary shapers of faith and life in their children; and the role of the church is to partner with the home in that process.
WDJD? What’s this? We’ve all seen WWJD—What Would Jesus Do? This very popular acronym is supposed to be a guiding principle when making choices. By asking ourselves what Jesus would do in our current circumstances, we should be able to know the better or “right” way to choose.
I said
should, because there is a big problem with making WWJD your guiding principle. How do you Bible every day, which most folks I talk to admit that they do NOT do, does that qualify GOD would do in any given circumstance? You might argue that Jesus lived over 2000 years ago in a different culture and under different circumstances. I would argue that what Solomon (considered the wisest human who ever lived) wrote in Ecclesiastes: “ under the sun. already, long ago; it was here before our time the people and circumstances in our own life and times. What He chose to do or not do, how He reacted and responded to the people and circumstances in His life and times, were written to guide you now in your time on earth. success = high-paying) jobs, to have a life of ease and pleasure. He does tell us plainly to raise our children in His love, so they will live as His children now and into eternity.our lives in GOD’s love, His grace, His Word. All our choices are intentional and based on our relationship with Jesus. Your relationship with Jesus is your witness to your children, and that witness/example is powerful in their lives.and outward appearances may be different, but the people and circumstances in Jesus’ life and times parallelknow what Jesus
Rather, we need to be guided by Jesus Himself by asking WDJD—What DID Jesus Do? You do not need to be Jesus to know what He and it is recorded for
As I wrote last month, raising your child/grandchild to know, love and trust Jesus is your #1 most important task as a parent/grandparent. tell us to raise our children to be good in sports, to get college scholarships, to have successful (in our culture
How do we do that? We live
WDJD—What Did Jesus Do? Does this question govern your life?
